St. Croix Christmas Festival — also called Carnival — is undoubtedly one of our favorite times of year. It’s held between Christmas and New Year’s each year, but he festivities stretch for nearly a month. You can find details about various activities on the St. Croix Christmas Festival web page and USVI Festivals Facebook page.

The Carnival Village in Frederiksted opens the day after Christmas and has an exciting line-up of music, including gospel, reggae, latin, soca and more. This year’s Village is called “Stanleyville” in honor of Stanley and The Ten Sleepless Knights, a musical icon on St. Croix. The Village also has plenty of food and artisan vendors, carnival games and rides, and other activities.

J’ouvert is a big part of Carnival celebrations throughout the Caribbean and St. Croix is no different. The word means “dawn” or “daybreak” in French, which is when people take to the streets to tramp, or dance, to calypso and soca music.

All activities build up to the Carnival children’s and adult parades in the streets of Frederiksted. Dance troupes in vibrantly colorful feathered costumes, majorettes, steel pan bands, moko jumbies, horses, and others provide an afternoon of entertainment.

If you’re on island during the St. Croix Christmas Festival, we highly recommend taking part in one or more Crucian Carnival traditions!

Celebrating 30 Years
In celebration of Centerline’s 30th anniversary, we’re sharing 30 Things Centerline Loves About St. Croix. Each week we’ll share something new — and we hope you’ll chime in on social media by telling us what you love too! Our big 3-0 is in March 2020, when we’ll also be giving away a St. Croix vacation.
