A trip to Buck Island is always such a treat, whether you live on St. Croix or are visiting! From snorkeling the underwater trail to spending an afternoon on Turtle Beach to hiking to the peak, it doesn’t get much closer to perfection. We love exploring Buck Island by fins and feet.

Buck Island by Water

The underwater trail on the eastern side of Buck Island offers some of the best snorkeling on St. Croix. It is within a lagoon formed by a barrier reef, making it both safe and teeming with life. It is home to hundreds of species of marine life, including captivating corals and fascinating fish. Underwater signage describes some of the incredible sights you will see.

Since Buck Island is a National Monument, it is monitored by the National Parks Service. There are currently six concessionaires who are permitted to take boats out to Buck Island, including Caribbean Sea Adventures who is included in our 30th anniversary St. Croix Experience giveaway.

Buck Island by Land

Turtle Beach is a pristine white sand beach surrounded by the most crystal-clear turquoise water you’ve ever seen. You’ll definitely want to swim ashore to walk the beach and, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, make the trek to the top of Buck Island where the view is absolutely breathtaking. Take a picnic and refreshing beverages to enjoy while relaxing on Turtle Beach. The beach is a nesting place for (you guessed it!) sea turtles, as well as the Least Tern, a locally protected migratory sea bird.

Celebrating 30 Years
In celebration of Centerline’s 30th anniversary, we’re sharing 30 Things Centerline Loves About St. Croix. Each week we’ll share something new — and we hope you’ll chime in on social media by telling us what you love too! Our big 3-0 is in March 2020, when we’ll also be giving away a St. Croix vacation.
