If you’ve ventured east on St. Croix, you may have experienced the greatest gas station on Earth, Ziggy’s Island Market. Not your average gas station, in addition to gas, they offer food, drinks and a fun atmosphere.
Though their gas pumps were down for a few days post-storm, they were able to get the necessary parts, make repairs, and start providing the very useful resource to East Enders. Always a regular hangout for locals, after Maria, Ziggy’s has served as a gathering place to exchange stories, access important supplies, use the internet, and unwind. It’s also a favorite spot to eat!
For now, the kitchen is open serving most of their regular menu Monday through Saturday. Roti, Johnny Cakes and the Cubano Sandwich are favorites. They also offer Sabado Gigante Saturday night dinner and Sunday Grateful Brunch, both featuring the culinary genius of Chef Aaron. The usual Wednesday night and Friday night dinners are on hold until WAPA is restored.
Upcoming events (pending the return of WAPA) at Ziggy’s are:
- THE BIG SHOW (4 Saturdays after the return of WAPA)
- New Years Eve Party
- Slapfest on January 13
- 9th Annual St. Croix Johnny Cake Eating Championship on January 27
- 6th Annual Ziggy’s Sausagefest on February 17
- 6th Annual East End Dance Society Dance Off
In jest, owner, Mike “Ziggy” Ziegler, encourages tourists to spend all their money at gas stations. In all seriousness, we definitely suggest that you incorporate a stop at Ziggy’s in your itinerary for more than just to fill up your rental car!
