It’s Home

October 14, 2019
October 14, 2019

As the saying goes, “Home is where your heart is.” And our heart is definitely in St. Croix.

We live here. Our families are here. Our kids go to school here. We are involved in the community here.

In fact, many members of our team are born and raised here – or as we say it, “Bahn ya.”

We have built our homes here. And some of us have re-built our homes here.

Some people may question why one would choose to live where there are hurricanes and power outages. Where it’s not always easy to get “things” and there is no Target. Where some things move at a snail’s pace.

And we remind them that our weather is, for the most part, consistently perfect. Catching a glimpse of the ocean is good for the soul, and taking a dip in it is even better. Our lifestyle is laid back. There are so many things to love about St. Croix that it was hard to limit our list to just 30!

We live where others vacation. And, most importantly, it’s home.

Cruzan Rum

October 7, 2019
October 7, 2019

It’s no secret, we Cruzans like our rum. After all, we’ve been producing it for more than 250 years. Now, Cruzan Rum has more than 20 varieties, from the basic light and dark rums to several island-inspired flavors to premium spirits.

A tour of the Cruzan Rum factory is well worth the time and small price of entry. The guides are entertaining, the history is fascinating, you’ll get to see the entire rum-making process, and the tour ends with a tasting.

If you’re mixing it up at home, check out these Cruzan Rum recipes. Or if you’re out and about, some of the popular Cruzan drinks available are:

  • Cruzan Confusion, a mix of several flavors of Cruzan Rum
  • Lime in de Coconut, always best when topped with fresh lime zest
  • Painkiller, flavors of pineapple and coconut, topped with nutmeg
  • And, of course, the classic Rum Punch – with a Blackstrap floater, if you dare!

The Cruzan Rum factory is also a great place to buy rum as they have the best prices on island. Tourists can take up to six bottles home with them duty-free and the Cruzan staff will even pack the bottles securely in a travel box.

Centerline Car Rentals does not condone drinking and driving, so be sure to have a designated driver.

Ha’Penny Beach

R.S. and his wife have been to St. Croix three times, but had never been to Ha’Penny Beach on the South Shore. On their last trip, they decided to visit and were not disappointed.

“We arrived at the East end of a mile long empty beach. We were able to put our stuff under a palm tree for natural shade and spent the entire day alone, reading and wading into the calm warm water. There is only one beach on St. Croix that rivals Ha’ Penney, Sandy Point, and it was closed for turtle nesting season.

From Sunrise to Sunset

August 28, 2017
August 28, 2017

Kyle’s Perfect Day on St. Croix will take you from sunrise to sunset, East End to West End. He would wake up before dawn and head to Point Udall to see the sunrise. This time of year (August), sunrise is at about 6am (check your favorite weather app for current time), but we recommend getting out there a little early to watch the colors change in the sky. It’s quite a spectacular sight! Since St. Croix is the eastern-most point of the United States, you are the first to see the sunrise in the country.

From Point Udall, Kyle would head west, stopping off at Ziggy’s Island Market for coffee and Johnny Cakes.

After fueling up, Kyle’s on his way to feed the pigs at Norma’s Domino Club. What does he mean by feed the pigs, you ask? Well, you buy them a beer (non-alcoholic), of course! Norma’s is open 7 days a week, located on Mahogany Road in the Rain Forest.

Onward, Kyle is headed to spend the afternoon at Rainbow Beach. This is a place you’ll see mentioned often in our Perfect Day itineraries as it’s a favorite spot on island. With crystal clear turquoise water, a hopping beach restaurant and bar, chair and umbrella rentals, as well as paddle board, kayak and jet ski rentals, it’s always a happening place.

A jump off the Frederiksted Pier at sunset concludes Kyle’s perfect day on St. Croix.

Calm and Relaxing

August 21, 2017
August 21, 2017

Anthony’s photo of Davis Bay.

Anthony appreciates the calm and relaxation that the North Shore and Rain Forest have to offer. His perfect day would be spent at Carambola walking the beach and relaxing. He recalls that when he grew up here, we still called it Davis Bay.

Carambola Beach Resort offers many amenities open to the public, including a beach bar and restaurant. The property is situated in the foothills of the rain forest and has a pristine beach. Snorkeling and hiking are favorite activities in this area.

After he gets his fill of the beach (is that a thing?), he would take a drive through the rain forest.

You’ll get to experience “The Beast” — a steep hill with breathtaking views — as you head into the rain forest. Technically not an actual rainforest, it is thick with native trees and vines. The air immediately feels cooler as you enter the lush forest. The main road is Mahogany Road (Route 76), which twists and turns through the unique flora and fauna.

We can almost hear the wistfulness in Anthony’s voice when he writes:

 Best times ever.
